We have joined IASAT (International Association for the Study of Affective Touch), the global scientific network dedicated to the study of “affective touch” and its impact on the nervous system.

IASAT logo

“When offered with method, gentle scratching resonates deeply with the human nervous system. That’s why everyone loves it, without knowing what is really happening inside them.”

Many people see gentle scratching as a casual, informal gesture. What few people know is that scientific research has documented a direct link between this kind of skin stimulation and the activation of specific brain areas involved in stress regulation.

Grattini Academy bases its methods on studies selected from MEDLINE, the bibliographic database of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Building on pioneering research into C-tactile fibres, receptors found in human skin, our team developed the Scratch Therapy protocol, which turns that evidence into a practical technique applied directly to people: the practice of slow, gentle touch.

In the United States, this skill is already worth over $130 an hour.

Our courses teach you to work mindfully with the client’s nervous system, to recognise the skin’s reactions and to move your hands correctly to activate C-tactile fibres, leaving behind for good the casual “scratches” sold for €30.

The Scratch Therapy methodology is not a medical, aesthetic or psychological therapy. In Italy it is practised as a bio-natural discipline under Law 4/2013.

What is Scratch Therapy for?

Scratch Therapy gently stimulates the skin’s C-tactile fibres, which neuroscientists have studied for years for their link with the pleasant feeling of slow touch and with a sense of calm.

That’s why it is a wellness practice designed to help you:

– Take a break from everyday stress
– Enjoy deep relaxation
– Rediscover the pleasure of gentle touch
– Switch off and take a moment just for yourself

What the research says:

– Slow touch activates C-tactile fibres, which studies link to the positive emotions of contact
– Research on affective touch is exploring its role in managing stress
– Many people describe the feeling as a pleasant “reset”

Scratch Therapy is a bio-natural wellness discipline: it is not a medical therapy and does not replace a doctor’s advice.
